Pane Pugliese
Made in deliciously traditional fashion with golden durum wheat and lievito madre — natural mother yeast, in Inglese — this authentic Pugliese bread is equally delicious toasted and served as bruschetta or topped with a little butter and a generous spreading of an indulgent Crosta & Mollica conserve at breakfast.
Bakery
The gold standard of Italian toast
Golden in colour with a soft, delicately chewy texture and crisp crust, our Pane Pugliese is a celebration of Puglia’s beautiful climate and exceptional local-grown ingredients.
Made by a 70-year-old family bakery in Altamura (an historic baking town that once boasted more ovens per person than anywhere else in Europe), the bread is crafted using golden durum wheat. The wheat needs plenty of light to grow, and Puglia’s characteristically long, sun-drenched days mean that it thrives across the region.
Traditionally baked in huge 10kg loaves — which were said to stay fresh and delicious for a week or more, thanks to their thick, crunchy crusts — our smaller version is altogether more portable but no less memorably delicious. Ottimo!
